Hands-on Marketing Internship for SLCC Students

While brainstorming with our Program Advisory Committee members, they noted that students graduating with marketing degrees from Salt Lake Community College lacked well-rounded skills that could be developed with more hands on experience. I decided to work with our students, other faculty members, and our PAC to develop a for-credit internship.

Students will work with Twistlab Marketing to help them better prepare to meet the needs of future employers. This practical hands on training includes marketing research, analyzing surveys, conducting professional business meetings, and implementing and evaluating the success of a hands on ad campaign.

This co-op program is currently offered to Salt Lake Community College students. It provides a practical work environment that helps develop the students’ skills to better prepare them for their careers. Working closely with professionals in the field and allowing the faculty and professors to influence the structure and learning outcomes of this program will allow the students to gain a better understanding of the concepts taught in the classroom.

    • Students will be required to complete intro to marketing and digital marketing to get a solid foundation for a marketing certificate. They will take an english composition course that is geared towards technical or professional writing. Design courses are also a part of the certification to allow students to understand design elements related to digital marketing. Courses included in the design category are Intro to Photography, Design, InDesign Software, Photoshop Software/Design, Illustrator Software, Beginning Film Production, and Digital Media Tools/ Techniques for film.
