Collegiate DECA 2016

Collegiate DECA is a student run organization that includes competitions, networking opportunities and leadership roles to students. As an advisor, I have the opportunity to work closely and help guide motivated students who are passionate about learning.

Officer Training Retreat 2016

Prefacing the 2016 school year, The Officers from Collegiate DECA took a weekend in August to discuss the upcoming school year. Each officer identified and took ownership over a fundraiser for the upcoming year. This was a very productive retreat in planning out the semester and assigning tasks to each officer.

Club Rush 2016

This year, 12 DECA students volunteered to attend club rush and talk to their fellow students about what the club has to offer. With treats, kool aid, cornhole and music, Collegiate DECA was definitely one of the most popular booths at this year's rush.

Fall Leadership Conference 2016

DECA’s Fall Leadership Conference provides students with the opportunity to explore potential career paths and participate in real world case studies. This year, Printerlogic, the Small Business Resource Center, and Mystery Escape Room challenged students to tackle issues that the companies currently face. Three students from Salt Lake Community College placed second in their categories. Students were able to improve critical skills in marketing, team building, public speaking, critical thinking, presenting, time management, problem solving and professionalism.

Pie Fundraiser Partnership with the SLCC Culinary Club

Just in time for Thanksgiving, two of Salt Lake Community College’s most recognized student organizations are teaming up to sell pies and cookies (made from scratch) in order to sponsor their club-related events and competitions. This fundraiser required students to cold call local businesses and pass out fliers across the campus and to local businesses.

3 on 3 Basketball Fundraiser

DECA is excited to announce that we are hosting the Bruin Basketball Brawl, a 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament that will be held December 3rd, 2016! This tournament is an all-day event and will include 3 vs. 3 games as well as a Dunk Competition.

This tournament is open to ALL SLCC students as well as the public ages 14 and up.

So gather up a team of five, pay a one-time fee of $50 ($10 per team member), and get ready to play your heart out for a fun prize! Registration closes on November 26th, 2016 , so don’t wait! Even if you don’t like playing basketball please feel free to come and cheer on your fellow students and friends.

Entrepreneurship Challenge Fundraiser

The SLCC DECA Entrepreneur Challenge is a student business-model competition. Teams compete for the best business plan and a chance to win more than $1,500 in prizes. Participating teams receive mentorship from community experts, and are judged by industry professionals. The grand prize is $1,000 in cash.

Each of these fundraisers required students to take ownership over and reach out to fellow students for assistance. Critical planning, cold calling, organizational and fundraising skills were developed throughout this process.
