MR Week 2016

I participated in Qualtrics's 2016 MR Week. MR Week 2016 is a place where thought leaders in the marketing research industry collaborate and discuss best practices. Speakers from companies such as: Qualtrics, Facebook, Microsoft, Deloitte and Jetblue (complete list here) discuss topics ranging from the science of research, to applying best practices.

Harvard Marketing Management Course

During Summer Semester 2016, I enrolled in Harvard's marketing management course. One concept that stands out in particular is perceptual mapping. Perceptual mapping is useful in comparing different product brands across two or more dimensions. Perceptual mapping gives the perception from the consumers stand point, and really allows a company to evaluate their intended and actual brand image. This concept will help students compare a perceptual map and SWOT analysis side by side for a more complete look into where a company stands.

Berkeley Instructional Strategies Course

During the 2016 Fall semester, I took an instructional strategies course in order to further develop my professional teaching skills. One of my favorite methods that this class taught (and applied) is the concept of sets and closures. Basically, a set requires the student to think about the topic in depth and apply it to a scenario that is personal to them. A closure, gives the student time to reflect and apply a concept to a future scenario. Utilizing sets and closures effectively increases concept retention.

Salt Lake Community College Student Standards Committee

In the Fall 2017 Semester, I was invited to join the Student Standards Committee. As a member, I am tasked with supporting students through a formal process of hearing complaints. This experience provides the opportunity to see first hand the problems that students face at SLCC. This not only allows me to help students when faced with issues, but to recognize patterns and attempt to help my student avoid similar scenarios.
