Marketing Info Management- Partial Redesign

Redesigned the Marketing Research course at SLCC in Spring 2015. The redesign included more emphasis on group projects in a semi-flipped class environment. We successfully completed projects for real clients including The Lupus Foundation, Salt Lake Auto Connection, and Terra Mia Restaurante. A relationship was also developed with Qualtrics in Provo, which allowed us to utilize their software during the course.

In this class, students learn the methods of gathering data to make marketing decisions, using various tools to develop questionnaires, set up focus groups, and analyze data for marketing decision-making.

This course is an Introduction to Marketing Research and covers a wide range of basic marketing research concepts and applications. The major objective of this class is to provide you with a foundation for using and doing marketing research. The course material is designed to develop knowledge of the applications and use of research data in marketing. Objectives for each subject unit are listed at the beginning of each chapter of your text.

Next Steps

By the end of 2015, I’d like to create a custom McGraw Hill book for this class, emphasizing the main concepts of marketing research. This would help focus the learning and reduce the cost to students. Recorded lectures will also be provided on Canvas to allow the students to learn and review the materials covered as they are working on the projects.

What They Said

"I have recently been awarded a prestigious position at Struck as a Design Director / Creative Lead. Its my dream job and my reason for pursuing an education at SLCC. I’m also nearing the finish line of opening my own independent film theater in the downtown area of SLC. The doors should be open by the end of Spring 2016. If you’re ever in the area around that time look for The Archive Theater on Main St. near City Creek and you’ll get VIP treatment anytime :).

Without your guidance and influence I truly believe that I would not have been successful in these endeavors. You’re a genuine asset to SLCC and your students are lucky to be in your classroom. Your classes truly helped me a better presenter and assisted me in selling myself with confidence. I appreciate you pushing passed my comfort zone in working so closely with a team to accomplish one goal. You taught me many things about marketing that I’ll always keep in my back pocket.

I truly appreciate all of your help while I was at SLCC. It was a pleasure and an honor to be in your classrooms."
