As digital branding continues to grow, social media and online customer interaction are becoming core skills that employers are expecting from marketers. The marketer today also assumes the roles of the blogger, the graphic designer, and the social media expert in a company. With the control of the brand shifting to the consumer, it is increasingly important for marketing professionals to find a new approach to communicating in the digital age. The field is constantly growing and there is a need to prepare students with the skills that will give them a well-rounded background to succeed in the digital marketing industry. This Digital Marketing Certificate launched in Spring 2017.

Adult learners have different needs and expectations and the curriculum designer needs to take those into consideration. While completing a certificate in instructional design at UC Berkeley, I’ve compiled materials from several courses to put together a general four step approach to developing a course curriculum. The four steps are designed around organizing content from various resources into a student centered course design that's easy for adult students to understand.

Lupus Awareness Project

This term, I’m taking a social media and branding class from Dr. Leila Samil and Bridget Franciscovich at Harvard. The concepts taught in this class inspired me to incorporate social media into the service learning project in our Introduction to Marketing course. The results were overwhelmingly positive!

While brainstorming with our Program Advisory Committee members, they noted that students graduating with marketing degrees from Salt Lake Community College lacked well-rounded skills that could be developed with more hands on experience. Millennials Influencing Super Bowl 50

Walking around San Francisco on the weekend of Super Bowl 50 was not only invigorating, but as a marketing practitioner it was captivating. During the Super Bowl even those that turn up their noses to football can be heard saying, “Well I watch the Super Bowl for the commercials.” This is a golden opportunity to for companies to showcase their products and services to over 114 million viewers who are glued to their screens, but it's only awarded to those willing to pay as much as $5 million for a 30-second time slot.

Curriculum Design and Assessment- UC Berkeley

In October 2015, I completed the Curriculum Design and Assessment class, a four-week course at UC Berkeley. The objective for this course was to help us develop curriculum and instructional plans in relation to our specific occupations, including the role of integrated academic and career technical education curricula. Topics covered in this course include the development and coordination of instructional objectives, strategies, activities, safety considerations, materials and student-assessment instruments in the preparation of unit and lesson plans.

DECA Advisor- 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017

Acted as an advisor at the DECA Fall Leadership Conference for three consecutive years starting November 2013. At the conference, more than 400 Collegiate DECA members made the trip to Park City for the annual DECA Fall Leadership conference over the weekend. Students had the opportunity to complete challenges for Adobe, Sundance Film Festival, ZAGG and Boostability.
